If you're finding yourself in San José and looking to balance your budget while still enjoying a comfortable stay, Around Juan Santa Maria is worth considering. Located just 4km from the airport, I found the accessibility fantastic-grab an Uber for under $6US, even late at night. The accommodation is a cozy shared house with three private rooms. It has a shared kitchen for those morning brews and a lounge where you can unwind after a day of exploring. I appreciated the clean linens and working Wi-Fi-essential for a travel writer like myself. The little bird calls in the morning didn't hurt either! The hosts were welcoming and provided helpful tips on transportation. They even checked the bus schedules for us when we were planning our next stop. It's family-run, which adds a personal touch to the service and keeps it genuine. While not bursting with luxury-in fact, you'll have to venture out for meals since restaurants are scarce-it's clean and feels quite safe.
